The Wall Connector is a good piece of hardware installed badly more often than most. The failure is almost never the unit. It is the gap between the amperage someone configured it at and the circuit that is actually behind the wall.
Commissioning is the whole job
During installation the Wall Connector is set to a maximum current draw. That number must match the circuit it is wired to — not the unit’s ceiling, not what the vehicle can accept.
Set it correctly and the connector draws within the conductors’ rating indefinitely. Set it too high and you have equipment pulling more current than the wire feeding it is rated to carry, protected only by a breaker doing a job it was never meant to do alone. That shows up as nuisance tripping first and heat damage later.
We size the circuit from the load calculation, then commission the unit to it. If your panel supports a 40-amp circuit rather than a 60-amp one, the connector gets configured at the matching amperage and charges slightly slower. That is the correct outcome, not a compromise.
Two vehicles, one circuit
Power sharing is the feature most Houston two-EV households do not know they have. Multiple Wall Connectors on the same circuit coordinate with each other, dividing available current rather than each demanding a full share.
The practical effect is that a household adding a second EV frequently does not need a second circuit, and often does not need the panel upgrade a second circuit would have forced. Both cars charge overnight; they simply split the current while both are plugged in. For a home in Sugar Land or The Woodlands with a full panel, this is usually a cheaper and faster answer than upgrading the service.
Hardwired, not plugged in
The Wall Connector is a hardwired unit. There is no plug interface, which removes the connection point that causes most receptacle-based failures — particularly outdoors, and particularly near Galveston Bay where salt-laden air attacks terminations.

Mounting position
Tesla charge ports sit on the left rear. That sounds like it settles the mounting question until there is a second vehicle in the household with the port somewhere else, or until the garage layout means backing in.

Permits
Inside Houston city limits this is permitted work under HPWCODE1056, with inspection required and the permit valid for 180 days. The city issues electrical permits only to master electricians registered with it, under the licensing structure in Texas Occupations Code Chapter 1305.
Outside the city, the authority follows the address — Harris County Engineering for unincorporated areas, or the relevant city building department in Bellaire, Sugar Land, Pearland, League City and the other independent municipalities.
Incentives worth checking first
The federal 30C credit expired June 30, 2026 and is no longer available regardless of equipment.
Entergy Texas customers — The Woodlands, Conroe, Magnolia — can claim $250 per port through the eTech program, but the incentive requires an ENERGY STAR certified charger. Confirm the specific model you intend to install qualifies before you buy it, because that requirement rules out some hardware that is otherwise perfectly good.
