Conroe is on Entergy Texas rather than CenterPoint, and that single fact carries both a rebate and a different process for anything involving the utility.
Entergy territory means a rebate
Entergy’s eTech program pays $250 per port for an ENERGY STAR certified Level 2 charger, with residential customers eligible for up to two — two vehicles or two locations. The application is online, and payment follows in roughly four to six weeks.
Confirm the model you want carries ENERGY STAR certification before purchase, because the requirement is firm and it excludes some otherwise capable hardware. Funding is first-come against an annual budget.
Commercial sites can claim considerably more for DC fast charging: $750 per port below 50 kW, $1,500 per port above.
Most Houston-area installers never mention this, because they work mostly in CenterPoint territory where no equivalent program exists.
A regulated, non-ERCOT utility
Entergy Texas sits outside ERCOT and outside the competitive retail market, so there is no shopping for a retail provider here the way there is in Harris County. For our purposes the relevant part is that a service upgrade runs through Entergy’s process and schedule.
The southern edge of Conroe is where this stops being simple. Addresses there can fall on either side of the line, and the street name will not tell you which.
Your bill will. Entergy Texas customers are billed by Entergy directly, with no retail provider in between — that absence is itself the tell, because a CenterPoint address in Harris or south Montgomery County is billed by a retail electricity provider you chose. If you have been shopping for electricity plans, you are not on Entergy.
The practical consequence is the Entergy eTech rebate: $250 per port for an ENERGY STAR certified Level 2 charger, applied for directly online rather than through a contractor. It is worth real money and it is only available on an Entergy meter.
The Entergy and CenterPoint boundary through southern Montgomery County follows service territory rather than city limits, and rebate funding is allocated annually. Our team confirms both your utility and the current programme status before quoting anything that depends on them.
Lake Conroe properties
Waterfront and near-water properties bring longer runs to detached garages and boathouses, and equipment that sits in a more humid environment than an inland garage.
Lake Conroe is fresh water, so the aggressive salt corrosion that governs installations on Galveston Bay does not apply. Standard 3R enclosures are appropriate. The real considerations here are run length, voltage drop across the distance, and an expansion allowance where a trenched run crosses between structures.
Second homes and weekend properties raise a different question: a vehicle that sits for days between uses does not need the same charging rate as a daily commuter, and a lower-amperage circuit is often entirely sufficient.
Two eras of housing
The older downtown core carries services that need a load calculation first. Grand Central Park and the post-2010 growth south and west of the city are largely 200-amp and usually straightforward.
City or county?
Inside the city limits, the City of Conroe permits. Montgomery County handles addresses outside, and Conroe has been annexing as it grows, so we confirm by address rather than assuming.
